Is Alcudia wheelchair accessible for the perfect holiday?

We always try and have a holiday in October to get some sun before the cold spell begins in the UK! We wanted to have a beach holiday where we could relax, eat lots of nice food and have a few Sangria's!

Alcudia Old Town

As with all bookings it's essential to find out if the hotel meets your access needs. It can be a very long process to find a suitable holiday as there is a lack of information about hotel accessibility available.

My normal process is to write down a list of hotels which look suitable and then contact the hotel operators customer service team to find out which are accessible. I have seen that Tui now have Detailed Access Guides about some of their hotels on their website which is a great help for disabled customers. This is something Tui are working on with AccessAble who are surveying their hotels to detail their access for customers. I will definitely be trying this out when we book our next package holiday!

I had heard good reviews about Alcudia's beaches and having done some research saw that they were accessible by wheelchair so thought this would be a great place to have a holiday.

We booked a week's stay, half board at Hotel Delfin Azul in Alcudia, Majorca with Tui quite last minute but not too late to make sure we had the assistance, transfers and accessible room we needed.

We travelled from Birmingham Airport to Palma (read our post on airline travel here) and had taxi transfers from Palma Airport to the hotel arranged by Tui. As this was a package holiday these were included at no extra cost which is one great reason to travel with Tui.

Beach in Alcudia

The hotel was in a good location. The beach was a 10 minute walk away and the main centre was a 15 minute walk away.

The hotel was good, areas such as the pool, restaurant, bar and entertainment areas were all accessible by wheelchair.

There was a varied selection of food in the restaurant which was different each night. Some nights they had themed food so it was nice to try out different things. The waiters and waitresses also let us sit at a table which I could easily access and so was close to the buffet tables each night 🤤

Our room was spacious and there was plenty of space to manoeuvre around. There was a wheel in shower but there was no shower chair (however this may have changed since we went in 2022).

Each night at the hotel there was entertainment we saw an ABBA tribute, Michael Jackson tribute and live band during our stay. It was nice to have the choice of hotel entertainment instead of having to leave the hotel each evening to bar crawl!

Beach in Alcudia

The highlight of our stay was the beach. The sea is crystal clear and shallow for a long distance. The sea is ideal for children as it is calm with not many waves. The sand had wooden walkways so we were able to easily get onto the beach and quite close to the sea.

There were also dedicated shaded areas for wheelchair users and sunbeds which were for use by disabled people only. The beach had accessible toilets and during certain times of the year amphibious chairs are available to allow you to get into the sea.

A lake in Alcudia

As Alcudia is a tourist destination it is equipped for wheelchair users. We found it really easy to get around, it was flat with good pavements making it simple to explore. It was nice to be able to take a stroll along the beach to Alcudia Port for a Sangria!

Overall we had a great time in Alcudia and would recommend it to wheelchair users. We did visit in October so the resort was quieter and I imagine it is very busy in high season. Please contact us if you have any questions about our travel experiences!
