A Quick Trip to Pisa

Writer's picture: LauraLaura

After 8 days exploring Italy it was time to end our trip in Pisa, although we had only a very short stay there, we made sure we visited the world famous Leaning Tower of Pisa.

Piazza dei Miracoli

Transport

We travelled by train from Florence to Pisa which took about an hour. I had pre-booked assistance again before our trip using the Sala Blu wheelchair assistance service to help get me onto the train which worked great again.

Stay

We stayed at Vele Storiche Pisane which was a 30 minute walk from Pisa Centrale Train Station. The hotel was basic and small but fine for our one night stay. The bathroom was accessible and had a shower chair. As we were leaving early the next morning we couldn't stay for breakfast so they provided us with some snacks to take with us.

The Leaning Tower of Pisa

Visit

We had a few hours to explore Pisa so decided to head straight to Piazza dei Miracoli which was a 20 minute walk from the hotel. There are three buildings to see in the area, Duomo Di Pisa, Battistero di San Giovanni and the Leaning Tower of Pisa. We arrived early evening and it did appear to be quieter so it was easier to take the obligatory photos with the tower!

The Piazza where the tower is situated is very flat and smooth making it easily accessible to get round and see all of the three buildings. Obviously the tower is not accessible to go up however you can see around it from the outside. It does get quite busy around the entrance area to the tower however if you carry on round to the back of the tower you will find it is much quieter and a better place to take photos.

Duomo Di Pisa

Also make sure you visit the Duomo Di Pisa as this is another beautiful cathedral with a gold mosaic dome and artworks.

This was our first trip to Italy and it will definitely not be our last! We packed a lot into our 9 day trip and I was surprised at how accessible Italy was from travelling on the trains to visiting all of the tourist attractions.

I would recommend Italy to anyone that was considering going! You can read more about the other places we have visited in Italy here. Please contact me if you have any questions about the places we have visited and stayed at!
